1. I am still sick, which is crap because i have to be on a plane tomorrow - enter skull-shattering pressurisation in my sinuses for 8 hours.

These are not even helping

2. This upset me immensely.

3. Soccer brawls are slightly fun. (don't tell anyone i said that)

Me: 1 - Windows: 0

So i accidently tried to validate my copy of windows that i clearly knew was in no way legal and, surprise, surprise... It failed.

So for the past week, this annoying message appeared every time windows started up

along with this god-forsaken pop-up that appeared at random intervals, seemingly concerned that i "may" be a victim of software piracy.

No shit.

Enter one of the best and easiest programs i have come across for a long time: Unlocker. A nifty little freeware program that lets you delete, rename or move any files that are in use at the time by any program or process, allowing you to bypass any sharing violations or inbuilt security settings that windows may have, displaying a list of processes that currently have the file locked so you can tell if it's a good (or bad) idea to do so.

So all i had to do was rename WgaLogon.dll in C:\WINDOWS\system32 to whatever and no more nagware. Bit of a band-aid solution, but i'm happy.

Alamagoozlum Cocktail? I dunno what it is, but i know that i want one...

I desperately need this book.

Vintage Spirits and Forgotten Cocktails : From the Alamagoozlum Cocktail to the Zombie

Here, historian, expert, and drink aficionado Dr. Cocktail has hand-picked 80 drinks rarely made today, and all of them deserve revival. Some are from the nineteenth century, some from the Prohibition era, and some from just after World War II, as the golden age of the cocktail was waning. All are retrieved from extremely uncommon sources. In fact, some of these drinks were found carefully penned into old cocktail manuals or on scraps of paper and may never have been published. They are true treasures, indeed.

Indeed.

Let's bake some cookies for the boys..

Just got a new Talking Bratz doll sample in today and the similarities between it and the talking Malibu Stacey doll from the Lisa Lionheart episode are uncanny. Except scarily, the Bratz doll is for real.

Malibu Stacey: "My name is Stacy, but you can call me [wolf whistle]"

Bratz Doll: "My name's Chloe, but you can call me Angel. I never have a bad hair day"

I think Lisa said it best:

Lisa: It's not funny, Bart. Millions of girls will grow up thinking
that this is the right way to act -- that they can never be more
than vacuous ninnies whose only goal is to look pretty, land a
rich husband, and spend all day on the phone with their equally
vacuous friends talking about how damn terrific it is to look
pretty and have a rich husband!

I rest my case.

Although i feel i should use the term "vacuous ninny" more often than i currently do.

More competitive eating..

I think i'm in love with this sport.. Check out Eric "Badlands" Booker too..

"He has excited fans at recent events by performing selections from his rap album, Hungry & Focused, and he remains among the most popular eaters in America. His sophomore album, The Ingestion Engine, debuts December 1 on IFOCE.com"

His album, incidently, is described as "Competitive Eating Themed Hip Hop"

And if anyone's doing their Christmas shopping early, count me in for an Official International Federation of Competitive Eating stubby holder

Gold.

Muscat's wedding on saturday, which i'm quite looking forward to. And i've actually bitten the bullet and decided to wear a frock, lord help me.. Hoping against hope that these bruises on my legs will fade in time. Damn soccer.

"Oh, this isn't a fancy dress party? And here's me coming dressed as a crack whore with bruises on my knees.. Who feels quite the fool now?"

Welcome to casa di miranda - Please be so kind as to remove your shoes..

Oh yeah, and finally moved in to my new place as of last week, but only just got the phone connected today, hence no inty-net action up until now..

So here are some photos of the pad that i took with my crappy camera phone for those of you too lazy to come and visit.

So this is the lounge, an open plan type deal with the kitchen in the bg.

Another of the lounge. The door opens out to the courtyard.

And this is the kitchen. Note the distinct lack of bench space..

Taken from the lounge down the hall to the front door. My bedroom's behind the sliding glass doors.

Bedroom..

..and bathroom.

Thus concludes the grand tour of casa di miranda.. Sweet, no?
Viva la France!

Erk... Those dirty, dirty Italians struck again this morning. Not only did they knock out Australia in what was quite possibly one of the most traumatic moments of my life, but they also denied me my revenge by knocking out Ukraine in the quarter finals which wasn't quite as traumatic given that Ukraine played like a rabble (as they had for much of the tournament).
"Right!" i thought (clearly clutching at straws) - My grandmother on mum's side was German and i'm quite partial to sauerbraten, knoedels, sauerkraut and the like, so up i was at 4:30 this morning, proudly sporting my Deutche strip to try bite #2 of that sweet, sweet pie of vengeance. Not so. Denied yet again in the dying minutes of extra time by Fabio Grosso, the acadamy award winning thespian, who you may remember from such instructional videos as "Learning to dive: who says you need an ocean?", and then a Del Piero goal in the last few seconds just to rub salt into the wounds.

So onto the next bandwagon: Viva la France!

(my second cousin's French.. Does that count?)

*gasp*

All American Rejects are playing the Corner on the 19th of August. Their album Move Along has got to be one of my favourite purchases of the year - 12 tracks of near flawless pop-rock. (and that's pop-rock in a good way, mind.. Yes, i never thought there was such a thing, but i've been proven wrong)
And they're being supported by Hellogoodbye who can be a little on the sucky side at times, but i can't get enough of that ukelele shit on the track "Oh it's love"...

Looks like it'll have to be a solo run though because the chances of finding someone who'll want to come with me are slim to none. Not that i mind - i haven't been to a show by myself for the longest time. Hope it's still as fun as it used to be..

But if anyone wants to come along, let me know! It's only *cough* $41.80..

Enough procrastination.. Back to packing.

Best birthday present ever.

3-1. Stick that in a nori roll and eat it.

Thanks lads

Cahill's second goal and the last from Aloisi were pure quality. And i don't know where they found that beanpole of a striker Kennedy, but loving his work too..

Feeling slightly like shite because i don't think i've had a full night's sleep since the world cup started - and i had to get up at 4am this morning for the Brazil-Croatia game. Not particularly happy with the result because Brazil played like shit despite the 1-0 win which means that they'll have something to prove in the next game. On the other hand, Croatia were quite impressive which in itself is a worry.. It's a tough ask..

And of course, i have to stay up tonight to watch the Ukriane-Spain game so that i can road test my brand new ukie jersey and scarf that the olds brought back from Europe. Thank christ it starts at the slightly more reasonable time of 11pm. Eh.. small price to pay for a once-every-four-years type event methinks..

So i'm out. Time to spend some quality time with my husband Shevchenko..

(Not to be confused with the less dreamy poet of the same name..)

Autumn is quickly becoming my favourite season..

My grandma dropped off a whole icecream container full of mushrooms that she picked with her sisters yesterday. I was a little bit miffed because i really wanted to go with them but that was quickly offset by my excitment that it's finally mushroom season.

I seriously hang out for these all year.

I did a bit of research and it seems that i'm one of the few people that is enamoured with them. There seems to be a bit of unfounded Lactarius deliciosus bashing going on and i'm not particularly happy about it.

Mindless violence & chiko rolls

What a cultural evening i had yesterday.. I was hanging all week to see the much-hyped Mundine vs Green fight in the hope that after six years of hearing Anthony Mundine's neanderthal burbling regarding the match (and of course, his own perceived excellence), i would finally see him put in his place by getting the living shit kicked out of him by (a marginally more humble and much more palatable) Green. Not so.

After driving around to several different venues - the Linc, the Royal and the Laurel all weren't showing it and there was a line for the junction TAB..

Let's just reflect on that for a moment.. There was a line to get into the junction..

- we had almost given up hope and were driving back home when Stef noticed that the seedy old man cafe on Mt Alexander rd was showing it on a tiny 30cm tv with rabbit ears. I couldn't have thought of a better place to watch a boxing match than through a haze of cigarette smoke, surrounded by old italian men & faded chiko roll posters..

Despite the result, it was a damn entertaining match and as much as it pains me to admit it, he completely out-classed Green. As a result, i've been avoiding any form of media so that i'm not accidently subjected to hearing his puffery.

I can admit that he fought well, but he's still quite possibly the biggest jerk on earth and he's still on my "people that need to be beaten senseless" list.

Incidently, the rest of my list consists of (in no particular order):

Shane Warne
Sam Newman
Mariah Carey
Jennifer Love Hewitt
Christina Aguillera
Steven Milne
Wayne Carey
Jen from the L word
